Formation : Africa Design School s’implante au Bénin

Portée par l’École de design de Nantes, Africa Design School ouvrira ses portes à Cotonou au Bénin dès la rentrée de septembre. Cette formation sur trois ans s’adresse aux bacheliers désireux d’évoluer vers les métiers du design numérique.

Engagée depuis plus de dix ans dans une politique de développement international, l’École de design de Nantes, par ailleurs installée à Delhi (Inde), Shanghai (Chine) ou encore Sao Paulo (Brésil), vient d’annoncer l’ouverture de sa première antenne sur le continent africain, à Cotonou au Bénin.

Avant une installation définitive en 2020 au sein d’un site dénommé « La Ruche », actuellement en cours de réhabilitation, Africa Design School sera hébergé dès septembre prochain au sein des locaux de Sèmè City, une cité dédiée à l’innovation qui rassemble des institutions de formation de haut-niveau, des centres de recherche et de développement ainsi que des incubateurs.

Une formation dispensée par des professionnels locaux

Cet emplacement stratégique répond aux objectifs fixés par les dirigeants d’Africa Design School dans la formation de jeunes étudiants locaux à la conception de services innovants liés aux technologies de l’information et de la communication dans les secteurs de l’économie numérique. « Nous avons répondu il y a deux ans maintenant à un appel à projets lancé par la Conférence des Grandes Écoles en France autour d’un projet de hub éducatif de Sèmè City et on a été sélectionné, explique Frédéric Degouzon, directeur stratégie, recherche et développement à l’École de design Nantes Atlantique. Nous avons identifié qu’il y avait un vrai besoin en termes de formation. Il y a des écoles de design qui émergent en Afrique de l’Ouest mais aucune n’était dédié au numérique ».

Il y aura une partie d’enseignement artistique d’un côté avec la création plastique et le graphisme, mais aussi de la culture générale, des cours d’histoire de l’art et de philosophie. »

Inspiré du modèle pédagogique en place à Nantes, le cursus proposé équivaut à un bachelor en design numérique sur trois ans. Celui-ci sera basé sur une formation centrée sur le projet et la méthodologie. L’équipe enseignante sera quant à elle constituée de professionnels du design exerçant en Afrique de l’Ouest. « Il s’agit d’une formation complète, précise Caroline Grellier, en charge de la coordination pédagogique sur place. Il y aura une partie d’enseignement artistique d’un côté avec la création plastique et le graphisme, mais aussi de la culture générale, des cours d’histoire de l’art et de philosophie. De l’autre, il s’agira d’une partie d’enseignement technique pour apprendre à se servir d’outils d’infographie voire de langages de développement. Puis dès la deuxième année, des projets pratiques permettront aux étudiants d’expérimenter tout de suite leurs compétences ».

Une première promotion de 25 étudiants

L’école, dont les frais de scolarité s’élèvent à 1 960 000 Francs CFA par an (près de 3 000 euros), prévoit de se lancer avec une première promotion de 25 étudiants. Les candidats ont jusqu’à fin août pour adresser leur dossier en ligne. Les sélectionnés seront alors convoqués au fil de l’eau pour un entretien individuel autour d’un test de créativité. « Nous prenons tous les profils, assure Frédéric Degouzon. Ce n’est pas réservé à une catégorie particulière de bacheliers. Ce que l’on regarde, c’est la motivation, la compréhension du métier et une certaine appétence pour les disciplines créatives. Il faut bien évaluer la personnalité. Le design demande beaucoup de savoir-être, de curiosité et d’ouverture d’esprit ».

Aujourd’hui, il n’est plus possible de lancer un service numérique sans avoir une expertise design dans l’équipe

Pour les dirigeants d’Africa Design School, l’enjeu est de répondre aux défis économiques du Bénin et sa sous-région appelés à s’adapter aux nouveaux paradigmes de la culture digitale. Des designers capables de concevoir des applications mobiles, des sites web, des objets connectés ou encore des animations graphiques sont particulièrement recherchés. Environ 200 000 étudiants sortiront diplômés des écoles et universités de Sèmè City d’ici 2030, et plus de 190 000 emplois directs et indirects seront créés, dont un tiers d’auto-emplois. « Aujourd’hui, il n’est plus possible de lancer un service numérique sans avoir une expertise design dans l’équipe, et cela fait partie des problématiques d’expansion de l’Afrique contemporaine », observe Frédéric Degouzon.

Pour faciliter les stages et préparer au mieux leurs étudiants au marché de l’emploi, Africa Design School compte s’appuyer sur ses entreprises partenaires, de Cotonou à Dakar en passant par Ouagadougou. Alors que le budget global de l’opération sur les trois premières années s’élève à 374 millions de francs CFA (environ 571 000 euros), l’ouverture de l’école reste sous réserve de l’autorisation délivrée par le ministère de l’Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche au Bénin. Une commission doit se réunir à la fin du mois de juin. Une simple formalité selon l’équipe pédagogique, qui a d’ores et déjà reçu les premiers candidats en entretien.

S/he will support resource mobilization and grants management, including the development and writing of project proposals, budgets, narrative and financial reports, contributing to the production of quality and timely funding proposals, donor reports, and other external communication materials. The postholder will be part of IPPF Youth Professionals Program (YPP); through which the IPPF ARO provides a unique opportunity to persons aged between 24 and 32 years, and who are nationals of an African country, to start a professional career within the field of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and in other areas relevant to IPPF. 2. KEY TASK a) Support the development of high-quality proposals to be submitted both to institutional donors and to trusts and foundations, and especially lead on budget development. b) Support procurement processes, especially with regards to the recruitment of external consultants. c) Conduct desk-research, write situational analyses and prepare relevant information as needed, to respond to bid opportunities. d) Support grants management, keeping track of reporting and contributing to narrative and financial reports. e) Overseeing administrative functions for the team, such as invoicing, accounting, reporting, etc., to ensure successful execution of grant processes. f) Undertake any other responsibilities which are commensurate with a role of this nature, which have been discussed and agreed with the line manager; and g) Uphold the values, ethics and culture of IPPF ARO and be an ambassador for the Federation. 3. PERSON SPECIFICATION EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
  • The postholder must be a national of an African country and between 24 and 32 years old at the date of application.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant area for the post is essential. A Master's Degree is desirable.
  • Fluency in English and French with excellent oral and written communication skills in both languages is essential.
  • A minimum of one year of work experience relevant to the job description i.e., in the fields of finance, resource mobilization, grants management, advocacy or health - in particular aspects of sexual and reproductive health and rights -, is desirable.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office is essential. Experience of Netsuite is desirable.
PROVEN ABILITY
  • Demonstrated commitment and passion for ensuring universal access to healthcare for all and SRHR in particular is desirable.
  • Experience of studying or working outside of the home country is an advantage.
  • Willingness to work in multicultural environments and ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs. The post holder must show tolerance and acceptance of different views and opinions.
