Plateformes web : près de 3 millions d’emplois créés d’ici 2025 en Afrique

Une étude publiée par le Boston Consulting Group estime que le secteur des plateformes en ligne va contribuer à créer 2,9 millions d’emplois en Afrique d’ici 2025.

Absorber le nombre exponentiel de nouveaux arrivants sur le marché du travail est l’un des défis que doit relever rapidement l’Afrique. Il semble que le secteur de l’économie collaborative, dont la croissance du chiffre d’affaires pour les six années à venir est estimée entre 25 % et 30 % par an, soit désormais attendu au tournant sur cette question. Fort de son dynamisme, il pourrait créer 2,9 millions d’emplois d’ici 2025. C’est ce que conclut une nouvelle étude publiée par le cabinet de conseil américain Boston Consulting Group (BCG) et dont les détails seront dévoilés aujourd’hui au cours de l’Africa CEO Forum, coorganisé à Kigali par Jeune Afrique Media Group (JAMG) – éditeur de Jeune Afrique et de The Africa Report – et Rainbow Unlimited.

1,7 millions d’emplois dans les biens de consommation

Plus exactement, 100 000 emplois pourraient être créés directement par les acteurs du e-commerce comme Jumia ou Konga, ceux du crowdfunding comme Thundafund ou encore ceux de la mise en relation comme Uber ou Airbnb. Parallèlement, un million d’emplois indirects seraient générés par les acteurs profitant de cette plateforme, comme les commerçants. Le reste devrait concerner des emplois « induits », c’est-à-dire créés dans un second temps au sein de secteurs connexes.

Les entreprises spécialisées dans les biens de consommation seraient les premières bénéficiaires d’un tel dynamisme.

Selon les experts du BCG, les entreprises spécialisées dans les biens de consommation seraient les premières bénéficiaires d’un tel dynamisme, avec 1,7 millions d’emplois créés d’ici 2025. D’après les estimations du BCG, elles seraient suivies par les acteurs de la mobilité (500 000 postes) et les secteurs de l’hôtellerie et du tourisme (300 000 postes).

Auto-entreprises

Si la part de l’emploi direct ne représente que 2 % des futurs créations de postes, c’est parce que l’économie de plateforme ne nécessite pas une main d’œuvre conséquente. Le modèle d’affaires du secteur repose sur la mise en relation et nécessite seulement de concevoir, développer et gérer un espace en ligne qui permet de connecter une offre indépendante de produits ou de services à une demande émanant d’entreprises ou de particuliers.

La grande majorité des postes créés d’ici 2025 vont donc concerner de l’auto-entreprise. Dans ce sens, les experts rappellent que les plateformes s’organisent afin de faciliter l’accès à cette nouvelle forme de travail plus autonome, mais aussi plus précaire. Afin d’inciter de nouveaux candidats à devenir chauffeur, Uber a par exemple noué des partenariats avec des loueurs de voitures en leasing (location avec option d’achat) en Afrique du Sud et en Égypte. Au Kenya, en Tanzanie et en Ouganda, le service de VTC propose également du microfinancement grâce à des partenariats avec des institutions financières locales comme Stanbic Bank, Barclays, Bank of Africa ou CRDB Bank.

Freins au développement du secteur

Pour parvenir à créer autant d’emplois, les plateformes en ligne devront néanmoins régler des problèmes de taille liés notamment au manque d’infrastructures. Sur le continent, la distance moyenne entre les principales villes est en effet plus de trois fois supérieures aux distances européennes ou asiatiques. Les carences logistiques augmentent de 320 % le prix des produits, contre 90 % en Europe et en Asie centrale. Et l’accès aux financements demeure plus difficile qu’ailleurs dans le monde.

Un terrain de jeu difficile

Enfin, le secteur africain des plateformes en ligne demeure difficile et quelque peu incertain. À titre d’exemple, le français Cdiscount s’est retiré du Sénégal et du Cameroun en 2016 pour se concentrer sur la Côte d’Ivoire. Début 2018, Konga a frôlé le dépôt de bilan au Nigeria et licencié 60 % de ses effectifs avant un rachat par Zinox Technologies.

D’autres réussissent bien mieux, à l’image du sud-africains Naspers qui a levé 314 millions de dollars et enregistré un chiffre d’affaires de près de 16 milliards d’euros en 2018. L’entreprise qui possède plusieurs dizaines de plateformes envisage d’ailleurs une introduction à la bourse d’Amsterdam au second semestre 2019, tout comme la société nigériane Jumia qui prévoit une introduction à la bourse de New York cette année.
